High protein snacks that'll keep you from grazing all day
Sweet and savory snacks that actually hold you over (and taste good doing it).
One thing about me is I love a good snack. But, I’ve also learned over the years that my snacks have to work for me.
If I’m grabbing things that are too light, too sugary, or just not satisfying, I end up grazing all afternoon. I start feeling cranky, distracted, and just thinking about food way more than I want to. On the flip side, when my snacks are filling and intentional, I function way better. My energy and mood feel good and nourished if I’m reaching for healthy (but still exciting) snacks.
That’s why protein has become such a key part of how I snack. I’m not obsessing over my protein stats necessarily, but if I can sneak some into recipes, why wouldn’t I? Protein helps snacks hold me over until the next meal. It’s like a little support system and don’t we all need one of those?
Today, I’m rounding up some of my favorite high-protein snacks — both savory and sweet — that I genuinely love making and eating on repeat. These are super satisfying, easy to make, and totally doable for everyday life.
If you’re more of a savory and salty snack type of person, this section is for you. These are some of my favorite savory, satisfying snacks I love reaching for when I want something bold and flavorful.
This creamy, delicious Red Pepper Hummus gets its protein thanks to one very special ingredient: cottage cheese. But don’t let that scare you — you’ll never taste it! Instead, what you’ll taste is the salty garbanzo beans, the touch of tahini, the rich olive oil, and the roasted red peppers that add just the right amount of flavor and kick to this hummus.
Say hello to your new favorite party snack — my High Protein Buffalo Chicken Dip. This creamy, cheesy, perfectly spicy dip takes everything you love about buffalo wings and turns it into the ultimate crowd-pleaser. Made with shredded chicken, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and plenty of buffalo sauce, it bakes up hot, bubbly, and completely irresistible. Whether you’re hosting game night, heading to a potluck, or just craving something cozy and comforting, this dip delivers.
Move over, Khloe Kardashian — there’s a new high-protein popcorn recipe in town, and it’s even better than her store-bought version. This is my Ranch Protein Popcorn, and it’s the perfect, quick, and easy high-protein snack that comes together in just 10 minutes. It’s packed with 30 grams of protein, and is proof that eating healthy does not mean that you have to sacrifice your favorite snacks!
If you’re looking for the perfect healthy recipe to shake up your game day, then you will love my 3-Ingredient High-Protein Queso. It comes together with a simple blend of cottage cheese, taco seasoning, and shredded cheese for a creamy, cheesy dip that proves that your favorite recipes can be made both healthy AND delicious!
Now, for the people with a sweet tooth! Even without a sweet tooth, there are always times everyone may want something a little dessert-ish, but that won’t send you on a sugar crash in 0.2 seconds. These are for you!
Cue the confetti cannons, Funfetti Protein Popcorn has entered the chat. This sweet-meets-salty, birthday-cake-in-a-bowl situation that delivers roughly 30 grams of protein per batch yet tastes nothing like a typical “gym snack.” It’s the quick high-protein fix that proves you can chase your macros and your inner child at the same time – sprinkles and all.
These Viral High Protein Brown Bites are rich, chewy brownie bites with a protein boost, dipped in melted chocolate for that perfect truffle finish. They’re no-bake, gluten-free, and made with simple ingredients like dates, almond butter, and cocoa powder. They come together in minutes and taste like dessert, but with the bonus of added protein. Keep a batch in the fridge and you’ve got the perfect grab-and-go sweet treat anytime a craving strikes!
Your favorite sweet treat just got a delicious, high-protein upgrade. These Chocolate Banana Protein Pops are rich, creamy, and made from just five simple ingredients: cottage cheese, maple syrup, a banana, cacao powder, and protein powder. The result is a silky-smooth treat that is reminiscent of a fudge popsicle and is perfect for kids and adults alike!
The best recipes are the ones that are secretly healthy, but taste unhealthy, and that’s exactly what my Easy Banana Chocolate Chip Protein Muffins are. These light and fluffy muffins are made from sweet, ripe bananas, crunchy walnuts, and melty chocolate chips, but don’t let that fool you — they are also packed with protein! Plus, they are naturally gluten-free and dairy-free, making them the perfect muffin to help you satisfy your cravings and hit your protein goals.
I don’t believe snacks need to be tiny or perfectly portioned to be “good.” A good snack should do one thing well: hold you over. For me, that usually means:
a solid protein source
enough volume to actually feel like real food
flavors I actually enjoy (otherwise what are we actually even doing here?!)
When snacks are actually satisfying, life is indeed better. Less grazing, less frustration and irritability, and more enjoyment around food.
If January has you feeling stuck in a snack rut or constantly hungry between meals, I hope this list gives you some new ideas to try. These are the kinds of snacks that help me get through the long days without feeling restrictive.
Want some great high-protein snack choices but running low on time and energy to make them? Here are a few of my favorite store bought snacks:
Lineage Provisions Air-Dried Steak & Meat Sticks – If you follow my Instagram stories, chances are you’ve seen me eat bags at a time of Lineage’s air dried steak. Think beef jerky, but softer so it doesn’t break your teeth, and simpler–the ingredients are air dried beef, salt and vinegar. Each bag contains a whopping 64g protein and trust me, it will keep you satisfied! They also recently came out with meat sticks, which I love too, made with only three ingredients: beef, salt and vinegar. This is not sponsored but if you want to try Lineage, you get 15% off site-wide with code KALEJUNKIE at checkout.
Chomps Meat Sticks – I have been eating Chomps meat sticks for many years. They are made with simple ingredients and perfect to keep on hand at all times. My boys love them too because they come in different flavors. Get them here!
RAWR protein bars – Ok you guys, these are the best protein bars on the planet in my opinion and I have one with my coffee every single morning. They feel like a treat, and made with simple ingredients. I love that they are refrigerated and super super fresh. I purchase 3-4 boxes EACH MONTH because I love them that much. They come in a variety of flavors, but my personal favorites are cookie dough, birthday cake, and the seasonal blueberry muffin. My kids especially love Birthday cake! Use code KALEJUNKIE at checkout to get 10% off your orders. Trust me, they will change your life and I do not say that lightly!
Top Seedz Crackers – So these are not your typical high protein snack like a beef stick or protein bar, but they are AMAZING and do contain protein as well as fiber. I can seriously eat an entire box in one sitting on their own and sometimes I use them as a dipper for my high protein hummus, which I shared above. You MUST MUST MUST order these and you’ll see why I love them so much!
Happy snacking 💚
