I found this a very thoughtful and honest piece. I understand that people want to support those whose views align with their own but isnโt that part of the problem? Our divisiveness has created a world where we have zero tolerance for one another despite our many similarities. This is a reminder that we do have common ground. Obviously food is political but your choice to keep your work about your food and lifestyle should be honored. Quite frankly it should be celebratedโit forces readers to make a simple choice, common ground or division. I support you and I know how difficult being a single mom can be without any added pressure. I enjoy your content because it gives me a break from all the noise. Thank you, Nicole. Now back to recipes (haha)
I appreciate you, Laura!! Iโm always down to have a good conversation with friends or with a follower that is truly there to have a good dialogue back-and-forth. The problem comes when I share publicly to millions, and those that are committed to misunderstanding me no matter what come out to force their opinion and argue. Thatโs not productive and it affects my mental health, which I already work overtime to protect (suffering from both anxiety and depression since I was young). Xo
Bravo! You write beautifully. Your work speaks for itself and I wholeheartedly endorse your stance. Not that you needed it! You're clearly self-sufficient. Good for you. Eyebrows, clothes etc. also great!
I love this Nicole and agree with you. People always want to find something to pick at and youโre smart to keep your thoughts private. Itโs no one elseโs business and personally I have also curated most of my pages to food, dogs and travel. Love you and your realness always ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ณโค๏ธ
Bravo to you for writing this! Anyone with a large audience takes heat and if your large audience happens to be on IG especially, the worst. I can't imagine (well I can actually) what you go through. 17 years when I started food blogging my blog was a vegan blog, because to heal my many autoimmune issues, it's what I needed to do - at that time, for my health. However, my health changed for the better and I was no longer vegan but the amount of random strangers who sent threats, horribly hateful messages, etc. was insane - for years. People feel entitled to chime in on other's diets, their weight, their physical appearance, life choices, parenting, etc. when it is so out of place and uncalled for. Staying in one's lane is such a great skill to have. As you do with political/world stuff, and as I wish others would do before they send a negative comment when it's not their place to comment on! You're doing amazing!
โIf we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human thingsโpraying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of dartsโnot huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds.โ
The most sensible and human thing is making a good meal, focusing on the sanctuary of home and living beautiful lives. You help us do all those things well.

Made me think of this quote from CS Lewis:
